A promise to two worried mushroom folk sends us deep into the Quagmash, where every choice carries weight and every laugh hides a lurking threat. This episode of our family-friendly Land of Eem TTRPG Actual Play blends whimsical danger, chaotic encounters, and heartfelt roleplay as we trek toward Dark Shroom Tower—and the swamp makes sure we earn every step. If you enjoy lighthearted fantasy roleplay and tabletop RPG hexcrawls, this is a wild one.
The journey begins with a quartal in peril and swamp tubers rising from the muck, followed by a clutch dragon whose scalding breath nearly cooks us alive. An improvised gauntlet of survival unfolds: harpoons plunged into blind water, a desperate knot trick to pin a long-bodied beast, and a retreat that keeps Fran breathing by inches. From there, the Quagmash tests both wit and whimsy—losing the trail in the thicket, tiptoeing through a canopy of sleeping troggles, and bluffing our way out with a puppet show and a lifesaving bardic re-roll.
When acid rain threatens to dissolve our gear, Hooch improvises the escape of the season: invent a tavern, dash through the toxic storm, and collapse inside Schmidty’s Singing Witch, where square-dancing bugbears freeze mid-step to eye the mushroom trio at the door. A few expert charm checks later, the tavern warms, the band swings, and Bork the bogflower farmer points us toward a pulsing black mushroom encircled by hostile fungals—the last clue to reaching Dark Shroom Tower.
We leave with hard-earned gains: Fran survives, Seth trades steel for a wicked new flail, supplies run low, and our strategy must rely on brains over brawn. Do we fly reconnaissance over the fungal ring, craft a safe path, or bait an opening? The episode showcases what makes Land of Eem shine: player agency, meaningful consequences, and NPC networks that grow with every dance, disaster, and narrow escape.
