I was never one for setting goals. I always thought if I was setting goals I would be focused on the future and missing out on the present. I have actually found the opposite to be true though.
Goals help you move in the direction that you want to go in, not the direction your brain wants to pull you in.
When you set goals (especially big ones) you break them down to tiny steps and then instead of focusing on the big, seemingly achievable goal you only have the small step to make.
When you climb a mountain, if you keep looking at the top it can seem daunting, but if you focus on the one step you have to take it seems easy.
When you don't have goals you can sometimes drift and spend time worrying about what the future holds, waiting for something to change or that job you want to just 'come along', so you are not truly present anyway.
