The fundamentalist evangelical movement isn't the only space conversion therapy exists. I have Sam on the show today and he is a survivor of Mormon conversion therapy. Interestingly enough, in Mormon conversion therapy a lot of evangelical principals and faith tenants are part of the foundational tools of indoctrination. Sam discusses how he was taught to spiritually bypass emotions, instructed to use women, and die to himself all for the sake of Jesus. Sam talks about the element of racism inside of mormon conversion therapy, and how whiteness was the true sign of righteousness. In this episode we also discuss the similarities between Mormon conversion therapy and manipulation tactics used by the evangelical movement along with a brief history on conversion therapy. I am grateful for this conversation with Sam, I have learned so much from listening to him and following his social media content.
