We are The Rough Concept. This week's episode of The Rough Concept Podcast, I share my experience while creating Her Florescence. It was inspired by one of the most difficult seasons of my life and I captured the growth, gratitude and joy I felt on the other side of it all. Josefina Sanders, artist and author, also shares her story with us and how she is reclaiming her passion, finding the things brings her joy and creating from a place of abundance. Whew! It is too good and you have to tune into this conversation.
This week's creative gems:
- Embrace the rawness: Beginnings are messy, imperfect, and vulnerable, but they hold within them the purest essence of our creative ideas. That rough sketch you start with, driven by a rush of emotion or a simple spark of inspiration, is the foundation of something beautiful and meaningful.
- Imperfection is human: As creators, we are beautifully flawed beings. Our constant growth and learning make us better versions of ourselves. We start with the messy and raw, refining and polishing until we create something that impacts lives and holds purpose. Let's embrace our flaws and use them as stepping stones toward greatness.
- Focus on the process: It's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of perfection and lose sight of the joy in creating. But when we shift our energy toward the process itself, we find that things become easier. We're no longer burdened by the pressure of getting everything right from the start. We know that refinement will happen along the way, and that's part of the beauty of the journey.
- Refuel your creative engine: We are the engines behind our creations. To keep the flame of creativity burning bright, we must constantly refuel ourselves by immersing in what inspires us. Take care of yourself, embrace self-care, and collect beautiful memories with your loved ones. Remember, joy is the fuel that ignites our creative fire.
- Be the Rough Concept: By embracing the raw, imperfect, and vulnerable aspects of our creative process, we become The Rough Concept. We embody the spirit of authenticity and vulnerability that guides us to create art that truly touches people's lives. So, let's celebrate and embrace our own unique journey, for it is in embracing our humanity that we find the true beauty of being an artist.
Creative Prompt: Think about what inspires you and how you can use it to fuel your creative fire. Write down a few ideas, then pick one that feels like it's calling out to you. Shouldn't you be doing more of that? Imagine if you did. What do you think will happen then?
