Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast. In Episode 13 I review a few reasons you can’t just slap a rainbow flag on your clinic and call yourself inclusive.
Episode 13 Recap:
- Inclusivity is more than a rainbow flag or an ambivalent “I don’t care who you love, I can treat you.”
- To be an inclusive clinic you should consider the following:
- Staff should be trained to communicate appropriately with ALL patients and know how to not misgender, dead name, or use micro aggressions
- Intake paperwork should have places for pronouns, gender identity, preferred name, and gender neutral terminology as appropriate
- Gender neutral bathrooms or signage to let patients know they can use whatever bathroom they identify with or feel safe in
- Inclusivity is not limited to the LGBTQIA+ community, it also means seating for people of all sizes, different anatomies, handouts with people of different skin tones
