Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast. In Episode 26, we discuss why seeing a cash-based or out-of-network provider may be better in the pelvic health world than seeing a provider who is in-network with your insurance.

- You get more one-on-one time with your provider who is an expert in the field!
- No more spending half of your session with a rehab tech or aide who has minimal to no training in therapy. They are typically motivated and want to go to therapy school but they do lack the expertise when guiding you through exercises to pick up on areas to cue for better form or execution of the exercises.
- Your medical care is being decided on by a medical profession, not your insurance company.
- It is not uncommon for the insurance company to deny coverage because they don’t think it is medically necessary without considering the nuance behind each patient’s story as well as the length of time that they have been struggling with these concerns. The need for care and length of care should be a conversation between patient and provider - NOT provider and insurance company.
- You are not locked into treating only one “issue” at a time.
- Many clinics and/or insurances will only pay for one ‘episode of care’ at a time. Meaning you cannot be seen for a shoulder concern and your low back pain in the same session. They have to be two different cases, seen on two different days. But with a cash-based clinic it is your time to spend however you want to! So if we need to work some on your neck and shoulder and spend the rest of the time addressing incontinence, we will!
- There is no surprise bill at the end!
- We have set prices and you will know them before you walk in the door. There is no risk of your insurance benefits being used up without everyone’s knowledge or the insurance deciding to start denying coverage on a whim, leaving you with a surprise medical bill all because you signed a paper on day one saying you’d pay anything that insurance didn’t.
