Synopsis
Karen welcomes her right-hand person to the podcast, Jennifer Cubides. They focus on how to run a successful event and provide a behind the scenes look on how to be a part of one. Cubides Artist services recently took on the task of managing and running events. They have worked heavily with CD release parties, workshops, and major conferences. With their vast experience, they bring to light the “how to’s” of event management.

How to Get Started
First and foremost you need to reflect on how exactly you could contribute to whatever it is you are trying to run an event for. You must have a call to action, essentially a strong reasoning behind why you want to create an event. A good way to get your foot in the door with events is to create a plan that would help both you and another company. Make sure to ask what their budget looks like and if they have any room for an event. Do not forget to mention that you would be happy to help grow their business when pitching your idea. While you may not be creating something new you are making it seen in a new light through your perspective. Karen claims that the best education stems from trying new things through practical experiences.

Being Qualified
There is a daunting idea that tends to prohibit most people from starting just about anything, and that is the idea of being qualified. One of the most common concerns Karen has brought to her attention is that people feel as if they don't have the background or training to do whatever it is. But in the end it just comes down to two things; how bad do you want it and who will you reach out to make this happens. At one point in everyone's career, we were all “unqualified”. Take courses, watch videos, research, intern, and volunteer to gain real-world experience. Whether it be running an event or switching the career path you can't begin without the first step, which is simply LEARNING.

Having the Right Staff
Karen is a strong believer in the quote, “you're only as strong as your weakest link.” Having a staff with the right people is one of the most vital parts of running a successful event. Jobs or tasks may arise and it is your responsibility to have available hands to help keep the event running smoothly. That being said, when choosing a staff it is important to include both skilled and hard-working people who are dedicated. In the end, your staff will be there when anything falls apart and when everything comes together.
