“I’m not trying to make a million dollars. I’m trying to make a difference. And when that’s your motivator, then your ego doesn’t matter.”
Whether it be performing, teaching, or innovating, Nikki strives to help people. She was drawn to the trombone because it was different – now, she’s innovating trombone pedagogy and making a difference. After years of study at Interlochen and Juilliard, Nikki started freelancing and taking auditions. Throughout her performance trajectory, she learned to embrace the process rather than the results; preparing for auditions isn’t about winning the next job – it’s about putting in the kind of work that will eventually pay off when you’re ready for the opportunity.
Nikki found a passion for orchestral playing, finding awe even in the harmonies of half notes and whole notes. Nikki’s avid desire to learn and grow led to an avid desire to teach; she wants to spread her discoveries, constantly asking “How can I tell everybody about this?”. This desire to spread knowledge and opportunity helped fuel the creative invention of Extendabone, a tool for smaller trombonists to expand their reach.
