In this episode, I discuss how travel has profoundly shaped my life, sharing three distinct cultural experiences that have resonated with me. First, I reflect on my time in Sweden and the tradition of "Fika". It’s not just about enjoying a coffee and pastry; it represents the act of taking a deliberate pause in the day to unwind and connect with someone. I've since tried to integrate this practice into my routine.
Next, I talk about "Sobremesa", a tradition I encountered during my studies in Spain and later in Argentina. It refers to the beautiful practice of lingering at the table after a meal, indulging in deep conversations and truly savoring the moment. Contrasting this with the American custom of promptly paying and leaving, I highlight the beauty of simply being present and enjoying the company you’re with.
Lastly, I share the heartwarming Georgian tradition of toasting every time a new drink is poured. During a memorable visit to a local winery in Georgia, I was deeply moved by the heartfelt toasts given by the winemaker, celebrating our futures, hopes, and dreams. This custom has become a cherished part of my life, and I intend to include it in my upcoming wedding.
These traditions, among many others, serve as reminders of the transformative power of travel and its ability to enrich our lives with diverse cultural experiences. They reflect the essence of what this podcast is about: building a life that harmoniously blends our professional aspirations with personal adventures.
