Description

Zechariah 6:9-15 depicts the crowning of Joshua the high priest, a symbolic act that foreshadows Jesus as both King and Priest. The sermon highlights how the phrase “the Word of the Lord came” often signals a Christophany, pointing to Christ’s presence in the Old Testament. Joshua is not the true Branch but a sign of the coming Messiah who will build God’s temple, not with stone but with people. The multiple crowns in the passage connect to Jesus’ many crowns in Revelation, representing His suffering, authority, and rule over the nations.

This passage also calls believers to recognize their role as a royal priesthood, living as testimonies of Christ’s work. Just as Joshua’s crowning pointed forward to Christ, our lives should point back to His finished work. Preaching must keep Christ at the center, exalting Him as both Savior and Lord. The nations will one day lay their crowns before Him, and we are called to do the same through obedience, worship, and faithful service.
