When the Roman Empire collapsed Christianity emerged as there was a renewed emphasis in society for the supernatural. Religious ideology helped people to reflect on the divinity and Transcendence beyond their human experience and to connect with their loved ones. Religion after tragedy was a helpful guidance for people in this culture after losing people to devastating plagues throughout Europe. HOWEVER, religion can be wielded dangerously to force others into compliance with your belief. WE DEAL WITH THIS AT CHRISTMAS. FORCING THE JESUS CONCEPT ON OTHERS DRIVES PEOPLE AWAY. Holding onto a quiet, humble hope for a better is what can get us though the holidays as we transcend and live above the mess.
