This week we're talking mindsets -
fixed mindset as compared to a growth mindset.
Shifting from fixed to growth usually results in some growing pains. Yet don't we also experience pain when we find ourselves stuck in place with no way out? Many of us have experienced just that.
A fixed or closed mindset is characterized by all or nothing, black and white thinking. It is fear and/or comfort based, and challenges are usually responded to with the word BUT. In a growth or open mindset, one dwells in the often uncomfortable place of not knowing, with a willingness to learn. Growth is action-based, and challenges are met with the word AND.
In a perfect world we can combine these two mindsets in what we call fluidity.
The team relates these concepts to our physical homes and our mental/emotional homes, both of which represent us as individuals. The belongings and creature comforts that fill our external and internal homes tell a story of who we are. You may not be able to get a new home, but you can make your home a better place to live. How do we start to do this? Start small. Pick one thing that needs improvement and identify the changes needed to make it more aligned with your values and goals. Then put those changes into action; make that a habit. As that habit continues to evolve you'll find that you've turned your fixed situation into a better one through gradual and purposeful change. If we fight relentlessly to improve what it is that we've been given in life, we find that we are not victims of our circumstances.
We are survivors who can grow and prosper despite the odds.
