Description

In July 2021, the NCAA adopted new policies allowing college athletes to profit from their NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness). This change has allowed college athletes to enter endorsement deals, promote products on social media, and participate in other commercial opportunities, bringing them in line with the rights enjoyed by other individuals. These changes aim to provide college athletes with more control over their personal brand and financial opportunities while recognizing the value of their name, image, and likeness in the marketplace. This episode explains what NIL is and the road to college athletes being granted NIL rights.  This episode also addresses two of the latest topics in college sports. Those topics are NCAA President Charlie Baker's proposal that a subdivision of DI college athletics be created and the preliminary injunction being granted to temporarily suspend the NCAA's transfer rules.
