James “Jimmy Mac” McNeal has been a pioneer bridging the gap between the Hip-Hop and BMX communities since the early 1990’s as an athlete, artist, designer, and entrepreneur. Recognized as a national force for creating Bulldog Bikes, one of the first African American owned urban lifestyle and BMX brands/bike manufacturers, he pioneered a movement that connected urban brands and urban consumers with the world of action sports and emerging culture. First featured on the cover of the legendary Black Enterprise Magazine in 2000, ‘Jimmy Mac’ has been named as one of the top 23 most influential black BMX riders of all-time by the global BMX magazine Dig in issue 998.
The 20 year success of the NYC based Bulldog Bikes – which blazed a trail for multicultural athletes across the country to compete and find a home in the world of BMX, and ultimately cultivated some of the hottest talent in BMX including Brad Simms (X-Games Champion); TJ Ellis and Colton Satterfield (Mountain Dew Tour champions); Shanaze Reade (World Champion); Jason Richardson (Pan-Am Champion); and Ivo Lackas (Olympic Competitor) - has led to his latest venture, Union Square Shoes. Resulting in a homecoming to South Jersey, the action sport brand representing the skate and BMX lifestyle fully sold out its second collection last year and will be unveiling its third in late spring 2021.
Jimmy’s contributions to lifestyle, culture and community does not end at the world of action sport but instead leverages it lift the Philadelphia and New Jersey communities that he calls home. As a mentor and teacher, Jimmy has worked extensively with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. He is the co-founding Teacher of ‘Kidprenuer,’ the young entrepreneur project for Black Enterprise. Jimmy has also been a guest lecturer at Universities around the world including Babson College, University of London, and Wharton Business school.
