In her 30 years career as an educator, Dr. Smith has facilitated learning for young children with the Children’s Transitional Residence at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Our Lady of the Divine Shepherd School, the Children’s Center and Preschool - Trenton, NJ, Hamilton Township School District, and Trenton Public Schools.

Dr. Smith is currently the Curriculum Supervisor of Social Studies for grades K-6 with the Trenton Public School District in Trenton, New Jersey; and the owner and principal consultant of Sankofa Educational Consulting LLC.

Dr. Smith lives with her husband Steven and has two adult children Raven and Satchel. She enjoys playing and watching tennis, gardening, reading, and research. Dr. Smith is currently working on a children’s book about diversity and inclusion in the city of Trenton.

Currently, Dr. Smith serves as a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc., that is a professional group of well-trained and effective educators in all components of the learning spectrum. Dr. Smith and her sorors are dedicated to training youth and adults to develop and enhance those skills, abilities, attitudes and ethics that will prepare them to function successfully in a democratic society.

Dr. Smith also serves as a member of the Mercer County Holocaust Genocide and Human Rights Advisory Commission that provides support to educators, local organizations and the community at large in Mercer County in order to better teach and understand the concepts and lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides.

Dr. Smith currently serves as a Board Trustee for NJAAW - New Jersey Advocates for Aging Well. A non-profit that advocates and promotes services that enable older adults to live in the community of their choice with independence and dignity in New Jersey.

Between 2018-2020 Dr. Smith served as the liaison between the Diversity and Inclusion Oversight Committee and the Parent Committee for the George School, and worked to ensure that its school's activities were compliant with its mission of creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for its students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Smith has served as President of ETE - Excellence Through Education of Hamilton, New Jersey from 2018-2021. Dr. Smith facilitated inclusion and advocacy for African American students and faculty members in the Hamilton Township School District by acknowledging academic excellence and citizenship through educational experiences and academic scholarships.
