Description

The session took place as part of the National Association for Healthcare Security’s (NAHS) online conference https://nahs.org.uk/

The session begins with a welcome and presentation by Professor Martin Gill, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Martin Gill: Security and the Healthcare sector: marginalised during Covid-19 or the centre of operations?

During pandemics healthcare services are logically the focal point of government policies and public concern, and so this has been the case. But what has been the role of security? We have heard in previous webinars that the focal point on the patient has distracted attention away from other aspects of work, and this includes crime Prevention. The range of concerns include organised criminals targeting drugs; increases in violence and aggression against staff; the need to segregate and protect patients (not least those infected); the need to protect different assets such as sanitiser. This webinar will discuss:
· The nature of crime/security concerns that have faced the healthcare sector during the crisis?
· The factors that have helped and impeded the response?
· The learning points and the implications for the future.

Panellists:
Bonnie Michelman CPP CHPA – Executive Director of Police, Security & Outside Services at Massachusetts General Hospital
Barrie Millett – Director of Assurance at Mitie
Jayne King ASMS, FSyI, PGDip – President of NAHS

Jayne King and NAHS Chair Roger Ringham closed with a conference wash up of the day's events
