What happens when the "rules" of spirit communication clash with authenticity? This episode dives into the fascinating tension between established mediumship guidelines and the raw, unfiltered nature of genuine spirit connections.
When my mentee asked about respecting "the rules of mediumship" on social media, I initially laughed it off. Yet just days later, I found myself bristling at an email outlining strict guidelines for a demonstration I'd volunteered for. This contradiction forced me to examine what truly constitutes ethical practice when communicating with those who have crossed over.
The established protocols many mediums follow—avoid negativity, don't overemphasize how someone passed, maintain professional boundaries—serve important purposes, especially for developing practitioners. But there's a fine line between upholding standards and imposing constraints that sanitize readings and diminish their healing potential. When spirits communicate through colorful language or references to intimate moments, these seemingly "inappropriate" details often provide the most powerful validation and emotional release for their loved ones.
Rather than adhering to rigid rules, I propose approaching mediumship with an ethical framework similar to the Hippocratic Oath—emphasizing service, integrity, and the sacred trust involved in bridging worlds. The most ethical approach may be trusting that spirits themselves know best how to communicate with their loved ones in ways that provide both evidence and healing. Listen as I share my "Mediumship Oath" and invite you to consider what truly matters when facilitating connections between worlds.
