A Brief History of CypherCon

CypherCon was founded in 2016 by Michael Goetzman as an independent hacker conference designed to break away from the corporate feel of traditional tech events. Its first gathering, held at the Safehouse Spy Bar and the historic Pfister Hotel, exceeded expectations and attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd. Since then, the conference has grown exponentially, solidifying its reputation as a premier Midwest hacker gathering.

CypherCon 8.0: Fate or No Fate

The upcoming CypherCon 8.0, scheduled for April 3-4, 2025, at the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee, revolves around the thought-provoking theme: “Fate or No Fate – What can we truly control?” This theme explores the intersection of determinism and free will, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Discussions will focus on how much control individuals have over technology and vice versa.
