Raise Your Thermostat

I know that Raise your thermostat doesn’t seem like it should be a complete sentence but today, we are making it one! Many of you may be thinking, Tanya… what the hell are you talking about? Raise your thermostat? It’s already 110 degrees out here today, shouldn’t we be turning on the AC? And I will answer you by saying this, the thermostat I am talking about is not on your wall. It’s not in your house. It’s the thermostat of your LIFE!

The hubby and I have been working hard this year on sharpening our personal and business skills and I heard a term this weekend at a leadership conference I attended and it hit me like a ton of bricks. In fact, I wrote it really big in my notebook with a big “ RAISE YOUR DAMN THERMOSTAT TANYA!”

Why was I so passionate about this idea? On today’s podcast, I am going to discuss this idea with you and I hope that you will find it as insanely important to act on RIGHT NOW as I did when the concept was explained to me.

Everyone, including men and women, has established an internal thermometer. This gauge is known more commonly as our comfort zone. This thermometer tells us when it’s 10 degrees above “NORMAL” and 5 degrees below “NORMAL”.  Most of the time if you go above or below these NORMAL levels, your brain will start telling you to get your ass back where you belong… at the NORMAL level.

This thermostat measures more than one thing in your life too. It measures your:

I’m sure by now you know what I am talking about. How many of you are guilty of saying my most loathed statement of all time: ‘Wow! That must be nice” instead of thinking “Damn, if she can do that, I can do that! I should ask her how?” We are all guilty of what we call the jealous bone, but what if we used others’ successes as an example of what is possible for us to achieve? What if we just said no to all the stupid little voices in our head that are trying to keep us safe and small and cry out that we aren’t going to live like this anymore and we are going to build the life we have always dreamed of.

The only limitation that you have is your willingness to get a little uncomfortable and turn up the thermostat.

In the words of a great mentor, no I don’t know her personally, yet… (see what I did there), but Marie Forleo has a great book. It is called “Everything is Figureoutable”. In this book, Marie talks about how her journey to get to where she is now as a world-renowned business coach and video host from her ve
