The gospel transforms and redirects sinners. Overcome by the mercy and love of God, we seek the welfare of Christ’s church and the salvation of Christ’s world. Both realms require a unique expression of God’s love. In Romans chapter twelve, the Apostle begins to describe how we are to relate to each. He continues this theme to include our relationship to government authority. How does the Christian render to God what is God’s and to Caesar what is Caesar’s? (Mk. 12:17). What do we do when the two are in conflict?
