Everyone has a time coming when they stand accountable to God. How are we to prepare for it? What shall we plead if not justice? Will God be merciful and if so on what basis? These are disturbing questions that persist in the conscience of every thoughtful person. The Apostle Paul explains how sinners can escape the justice of God through the good news of the gospel. It is the power of God unto our salvation to all who believe. As a skilled teacher of Scripture, he builds his case from Scriptures such as the writings of the prophet Habakkuk. Here the theme of salvation by faith appears dimly at first but becomes more and more focused as Paul explains the work of Christ in our salvation.
