The gospel changes people. Not in superficial tweaks but deeply to the transformation of mind, soul and body. In Romans 5, the Apostle Paul helps us appreciate this gospel change by comparing it with our natural state as children of Adam under the reign of death. By the power of the gospel, our old nature and circumstances in Adam are changed to a new nature in which we share the blessings of sonship in Christ. In Christ, we are as eternally secure as in Adam we were without hope. This passage, although one of the most difficult in all of Paul’s epistles to understand, is fundamental to the whole of Christian theology and the joyful disposition of the people of God.
