Description

This episode we focused on cooperative housing for older adults with a series of three articles, highlighting benefits like community support and mutual aid.

Elizabeth Magayon Fleury shared insights from The Guardian, noting Denmark's lead in cohousing with 80,000 seniors planning moves.

Benjamin Surmi presented Axios' article on Des Moines' Artesia project, offering 1001-1800 sq. ft. units starting at $263,000 with a $2,500 monthly fee. Benjamin also introduced for discussion a Beaverton, Oregon initiative promoting communal building ownership.

Ray Gordon weighed in about co-ops in New York City and provided insight on government projects.

We had a robust discussion with Ellen Khalifa, Debbie Howard and Linda Sherman contributing. An important point was made about collaborating with a Home Health Care organization which Koelsch Communities does for their Independent Living communities. We emphasized the need for thoughtful planning and diverse housing options to support aging in place.
