Description

Our Part 2 AgeTech in Japan episode recorded live in Japan features leaders discussing prevention-focused design, startup support, market-entry pathways, fall-prevention innovation, and frontline perspectives on aging, caregiving, and technology adoption.

Stephen Johnston introduced “primordial prevention” - designing environments (parks, walkable shops, neighborhood networks) so that healthy aging and brain health happen “by default,” not just via medical care.

Shiho Watabe explained Shibuya Startup’s semi-public, semi-private hub approach that helps global startups enter Japan with visas, bank account establishment, workspace, and corporate connections, including for agetech innovations.

Adam Claydon-Platt outlined the Living Best AgeTech pitch competition, offering selected startups consumer research, localization, pilots, distribution help, and up to ~$100K in in-kind market-entry support.

Khashayar Misaghian presented predictive fall-prevention tech (camera + wearable/IMU belt) that detects falls 3–5 seconds early and alerts older adults to stabilize.

Bailey Paxton shared a home-care provider’s view on Japan’s leadership in AgeTech: robotics, frailty scoring, LTC insurance, and creative community-based prevention models
