Eddie attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, on a music scholarship and later studied online at Summit Bible College. He was ordained as a minister in 2009 through Life Park Christian Fellowship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and later ordained by Racers For Christ in 2015. He began serving as a volunteer chaplain with RFC in 2009. A few years later he was joined by his wife Kelly.
In 2015 Eddie accepted the Field Ministry Director position. They sold their home and business in Oklahoma and moved to Arizona. Besides working in the office, the Baughers served the Lucas Oil Arizona Regional Off-Road Series for six years. They also ministered at boat races, circle-track races, quarter midget races, car shows, and at every level of NHRA drag racing.
Then, when Larry Smiley retired as president at the end of 2017, the board offered Eddie the position. He has been leading the ministry of RFC serving as Executive Director since that time.
In 2021 Eddie and Kelly also began traveling with the NHRA Drag Racing National Series. Over the past four years they have built relationships with the drivers and crew members that travel this series. Kelly is now serving as the women’s ministry leader for RFC. She enjoys leading her Saturday women’s devotion time at the track and pouring into the lives of the amazing ladies who travel with the NHRA series.
At the end of 2022 season the Baughers made the decision to move to Indianapolis. This strategic move not only allowed them to be home more often, between races; it also allowed them to begin building greater relationships with the teams that are based in the Brownsburg, Indiana area. Since the move Kelly has organized and leads a women’s retreat in Indianapolis in January, with ladies from around the country.
“We both love connecting with the racers and becoming a part of their lives,” Eddie says, “as well as with the crew members, families, staff, and fans who are all part of the NHRA family.”
