April 11-17th was Black Maternal Health Week. During this week emphasis is placed on brining awareness to the black maternal and infant health crisis in the United States. Founded by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, this initiative was implemented to improve health outcomes for black women and their babies. In honor of Black Maternal Health Week, this episode will explore the reasons for the health care disparities amongst black women and black infants, what you can do to advocate for your own health during pregnancy, what qualities you should look for when selecting a health care provider, the difference between OB/GYNs and Midwives, and learn more about doula services.
