Today pelvic floor and sexual therapist Lisa Fitzpatrick returns to Changing Seasons podcast to speak to Jody about Sexy Menopause. Lisa believes it is possible for every woman to enjoy sex throughout perimenopause and beyond and describes the blocks standing in the way of women doing so.
We discuss how women store tension and past trauma in the pelvic and how if it is not addressed it can lead to them experiencing pain, discomfort and lack of interest in sex during perimenopause. Lisa explains that many women have focused so much on tightening their core and pelvic floor in exercises like pilates that they now have such a tight pelvic floor it is leading to other problems.
Lisa gives us a full run down on the styles of vibrators that women need to use if they are having problems with vaginal atrophy, why clitoral stimulating vibrators are not recommended for this and how overuse of vibrators can be problematic and why. We review the wide range of sexual lubricants available and the best and safest ones to use and why. Lisa also talks about silicon menstrual cups and how their use is being questioned now as it has been associated to organ prolapse.
This is a comprehensive episode in which we cover so many questions women in menopause have about how to rediscover their sexuality and confidence in midlife.
