This week on the show we chat about Anti Doping, drug testing, and our thoughts on how it could improve and then the second half of the episode Kayla chats Ironman Texas. Doping and Anti Drug Testing Resources Global DRO https://www.globaldro.com/Home This is my favorite resource because you can go onto it and check your medications and the things that you take and it will tell you whether it is ok in competition, out of competition, not ok, etc etc. It helps to keep you very informed because often times our general practitioners are not. For example I went through a period of time as my hormones were reregulating after my eating disorder that I had really bad cystic acne. I went to the dermatologist and she prescribed me a steroid cream for it, I checked it on the Global DRO and it was restricted this allowed me to go back to her and come up with another plan that did not put me in needing to get a TUE and/or be accidentally on something that I shouldn’t be on. USADA Testing Agency https://www.usada.org/athletes/testing/ From test planning and collection of a urine or blood sample, through the results managements process, USADA provides a thorough program, with policies and procedures in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code, the WADA International Standards, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Anti-Doping Rules, and the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing. Professional athletes often have to provide their WhereAbouts in a program called Adams. Basically this is a collection of where they are at all times so that they can be tested anywhere. If you fail to comply with this (ie: update your WhereAbouts and/or miss your window of testing three times you get a violation - there are multiple ways in which you can get a violation outside of just failing a drug test). Important Documents to pay attention to: WADA Code The Code is a core document that provides the framework for anti-doping policies, rules, and regulations within sport organizations and among public authorities. It is designed to harmonize anti-doping policies and ensure the standards are the same for all athletes. The Code works in conjunction with eight international standards that further provide guidelines for anti-doping efforts. https://www.usada.org/about/world-anti-doping-code/ WADA ISTI (international standard for testing and investigations) https://www.usada.org/about/world-anti-doping-code/wada-international-standard-for-testing-and-investigations/ USAD Testing Protocols https://www.usada.org/statement/usada-statement-covid19-antidoping-protocol/
