Young Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, one night to venture into the forest, where he meets a mysterious man. As they journey deeper into the woods, Goodman Brown sees respected members of his Puritan community participating in a sinister, supernatural ceremony. Shocked and disillusioned, he returns home, haunted by the experience. He lives the rest of his life in suspicion and gloom, distrusting everyone—including Faith.
