Description

If you’ve ever looked at your life and thought, “I should be further along by now,” you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. We talk about the quiet trap of measuring the present against an imagined future, where the “horizon line” keeps moving and real progress starts to feel like real disappointment. That mindset is what I call living in the gap, and it can drain your joy even while you’re doing the hard work to grow.

I’m pulling insights from *The Gap and the Gain* and grounding them in Scripture to show a better way forward: measure backward. The gain is gratitude with receipts. We walk through 1 Samuel 7:12 and Samuel’s Ebenezer stone, a physical reminder of a spiritual truth: “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” We also sit with Deuteronomy 8:2 and the call to remember the whole way through the wilderness, telling the truth about what hurt while still honoring what God formed in you.

You’ll leave with simple, practical questions you can ask today to name specific wins, answered prayers, new boundaries, resisted temptations, and the strength God gave you for the day you didn’t think you could survive. Keep your goals in front of you, but keep your markers behind you, because direction matters and perspective does too. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who feels stuck, and leave a review so more people can find the message.
