Greetings, Summit Leaders.

Humility is a virtue that helps leaders empower others in becoming the best they can be.
Humility is essential because it enables a leader to build bridges to people, sustain teamwork, and create an environment where others can thrive and flourish.
C.S. Lewis put it this way: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.”
Early in my life and career journey, I thought of humility as a weakness instead of quality for greatness in a leader. "Humility comes before honor." and "If anyone among you wishes to be great. Let him become a servant to all." are two quotes that highlight two proven principles in leadership.

Through our selfless actions, we inspire others to be part of our team, produce our best work as a team, and stay engaged because they have a sense of belonging and growth.

Think of someone you know who exhibits the quality of humility in their leadership. Ask yourself, "What impact has this person made in my life and career?"

The Havard Business Organization published several articles on leadership that highlight the impact of humility in a leader.
1. "Six Principles for Developing Humility as a Leader" by John Dame and Jeffrey Gedmin
2. "How Humble Leadership Really Works" by Dan Cable
3. "Level 5 Leadership: The Triumph of Humility and Fierce Resolve" by Jim Collins.

Being mindful that humility is a vital virtue helps us to focus our minds on cultivating this quality in our lives.

Over time, we become a leader who has expanded influence and receives honor by how they perform in addition to the results they achieve. Also, we build a hedge of protection against pride or thinking more of ourselves than we should. "Before his downfall, a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor." is an ancient quote that points to the value of humility.
“Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will.” Zig Ziglar

A Summit Leader shared with me an update on his progress. He works hard, builds his skills, and focuses on his vision. He describes the advancement in reaching some of his career goals is like "becoming a celebrity overnight." Here are four suggestions he makes.
1. Train every day like there is no tomorrow.
2. Give it 100% 100% of the time.
3. Train with others who are seeking excellence.
4. Focus on being the best you can become.
He rates his humility between 6 to 7 on a scale of 10.
He encourages me because of his focus on developing this quality.

Many Summit Leaders are focusing on the attribute of "humility." A recent cohort of 32 Summit Leaders highlighted "humility" as one of their top five characteristics.

Summit Leaders are thinking, acting, and developing habits leading to greatness as leaders.

"Sow a thought. Reap an action. Sow an action. Reap a habit. Sow a habit. Reap a character. Sow a character. Reap a destiny." Ralph Waldo Emerson
