"What story are you writing?"

Greetings, Summit Leaders.

You are writing a story each day in the decisions you make, your way of engaging people, clients, and work opportunities.

Our walk each day adds content for the chapters of our journey in life and career. We are also becoming content in the stories of other people's life narratives.

Many great leaders continually ask themselves on a moment by moment basis. "What is my motivation as I prepare to engage this person, opportunity, or challenge?" In every encounter, the recurring theme is how we treat people. In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you.

Today, I had a conversation with a new Summit Leader who shared his passion for working with children with special needs in a program called "Cast for Kids." He takes a group of kids on a fishing trip and helps them catch their first fish. "I enjoyed seeing their smiles when they caught their first fish." That chapter is entitled "Seeing Their Smiling Faces."

Whom can you remember that positively impacted your life?

I once heard a great leader say, "Keep a journal!" In a conversation last evening with a new Summit Leader, the phrase we shared was "Journaling the Journey!" "Write it down so that you will never forget the process."

Journals are a physical representation of the life story you are writing at this moment. Also, they can be a way to discover patterns from past experiences and outcomes that will help you more clearly navigate your journey ahead and reach our goals in life.

"Journaling is one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated spiritual disciplines. Journaling is the difference between learning and remembering. It's also the difference between forgetting and fulfilling our goals." Mark Batterson

You remember circumstances, feelings, emotions, and people who impacted you with their help and encouragement. Last night in a meeting with a group of leaders I met with to study leadership principles of great leaders, I shared my story of Bill the Janitor. Bill came into my life in 1978 when I was struggling to find my way. Now, 41 years later, I share his impact with five men that never met him but are influenced by his help to me in a chapter in my life entitled "Lessons Learned from the storage closet."

Here are some questions we can ask ourselves as leaders.

How am I helping others and becoming part of their story?
How can I assist someone who is struggling on their journey?
How can I encourage and invest myself in the life of someone today?

In my opinion, investing in the lives of people is the "secret sauce" in leadership!

My hope and prayer are that we can be a source of inspiration, help, and impact in someone's life on our journey.

Victory.
