Hence the reason for trying to protect Admiral.
We obtained the information of his whereabouts and borrowed our neighbours small horse box lorry. We raised £900 to buy him…..the price the owner would have received if he had sold him for dog meat!!
Admiral’s problem was a “side bone” on one of his front legs where the hoof joins the lower leg. Our vet had told us it was a risk to buy him like that…...he could be OK or create lots of problems.
We took the risk, brought Admiral back to Northcote and we then had resident representative of that very rare breed of Heavy Horse.
He worked little and often pulling the ride dray with our visitors. He had a good normal life and managed to reach a good age.
