I read a piece in The Atlantic by Charlie Warzel called "AI Is a Mass Delusion Event," which inspired this Quickie. It's well-reasoned and well-written, and it triggered my memory from a couple of weeks ago of a recent rejection of a data center by City of Tucson. I reference a Tucson Sentinel story about it in this episode, which you can find here. One thing overlooked by both tech bros and the evangelical true believers is that for all their pie-in-the-sky posturing, they have one giant obstacle in front of them: Local governments who answer to their residents about how resources are allocated.
