- Prospect relationally
- Get to know them first: family, background and heart
- Learn about their skills, education and current job
- Match their gifting to the volunteer role
- Don't give them a job that you wouldn't do yourself
- Train and give them resources to help
- Surround them with more experienced gurus to learn from
- Provide support and ongoing benchmarks
- Be the kind of ministry- family they would invite friends to
- Promote volunteers as they grow and reproduce them as leaders
