Welcome back! When you’re 330 episodes into a podcast, sometimes it’s powerful to revisit where it all began—the heart behind Direction Not Perfection. What has kept this passion going strong for over five years? Growth—yes—but more importantly, consistency in the message:

We are turning away from diet mentality and moving toward sustainable, lasting health—both physical and mental—while learning to love and accept ourselves right where we are.

One of the foundational concepts I teach—and what inspired the title of my book Direction Not Perfection—is exactly that. I wrote the book because I kept having the same meaningful conversations with clients in my hospital job (fun fact: I worked in both surgical and non-surgical weight loss). These conversations deserved a place to live, so others could benefit too.

So what is diet mentality? It’s the belief that the next strict plan will be the magic fix. It’s the “I’ll just get super strict for a few months” mindset. And while that might work short term, it’s not sustainable. And if it’s not sustainable, it’s not success.

Long-term success—the kind that’s still sticking with you when you’re 80—requires sustainable strategies. It means doing the deeper work. It means discovering what you enjoy when it comes to movement and nutrition—not what someone else tells you to do.

This is about mindset, resilience, and consistency. The change is in the show up.

A quick recap of today’s key takeaways:

1.   Turn away from diet mentality – There’s a better, more sustainable path that ends the yo-yo cycle.

2.   Eyes on your own paper – This is your journey. Trust it.

3.   Redefine success – Sustainable progress starts with shifting expectations and building confidence through small wins.

Until next time—cheers to health, happiness, and showing up for yourself.
