Listen

Description

It is podcast Friday and I am here with another great interview.  If you are choosing to listen to this podcast, then you are being intentional with your choices.  Rather than catching the latest episode of a tv show or playing a game on your phone, you are taking the time to plug positivity into your ears.  The reward for making that choice is you get to hear some inspiring words from my friend Lauren McClain.

Lauren is an attorney with a practice in the areas of adoption law, juvenile law and third-party reproduction law. She works in the cutting-edge area of artificial reproductive technology law (ART) but, her most important job is being a wife and a mother to 4 girls, ages 6 to 12.

Lauren has always been a time managed person who runs on a routine and schedules.  This past year Covid  19 hit her home hard and her world was turned upside down.  She is actually grateful to have had the experience because everyone recovered and is heathy now and she learned so much from it.

Her husband was hospitalized due to the virus and then she also became ill.  She had to rely on the goodness of friends and neighbors for meals to feed her family.  They had the opportunity to see how loved they were by their community.

Battling this illness hit home and made a big impression on them because it made them realize that this is real. It can happen to anyone.  It was also a blessing because it made them see that life is finite, so be intentional about what you do.   Their family couldn’t have gotten through it without the help of other people, so Lauren is making sure to pay it forward and be there for others who are hurting.  Her children were there for her when she needed them and their resiliency during their parent’s illness and ensuing quarantine was encouraging to see.

Struggling with the effects of the Covid virus made Lauren evaluate what was important in her life.  She realized that God has a plan for her.  He has put her where he wants her to be.

Many of us have God given talents that we brush away.  We may look at our strengths and wish we were more like others.  But we are unique on purpose and God has made us like he wants us.  He has plans for us.   “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ( Jeremiah 29:11)

Lauren encourages her daughters to believe that and embrace it.   You will stumble but need to stay in your own lane.  Keep your eyes on our own paper. You are exactly who you need to be.  Don’t compare yourself with others.  Teddy Roosevelt said “Comparison is the thief of Joy”.   She hopes that people will reevaluate their strengths and lean into them.  You are here for a reason, a purpose.  Put one foot in front of the other and choose Joy.
