Whack-a-mole is an arcade game popular with kids (and their parents). They start out, mallet in hand, joyfully whacking each rodent as it pops up in a random position. The more moles you whack, the faster they start to pop up, until the whacker is practically popping a vein trying to get them all. Does this ever resemble your life? Wham, one project successfully in the books. Wham, you handled that hardship. Wham you wacked that item off your list. But as you wipe your brow with relief for those accomplishments, twice as many issues pop up needing your attention. Let’s take our big squishy hammer today and tune in as I provide some tips and insight on how to affectively beat this game!
Some people thrive under pressure and think the whack-a-mole game of life is almost fun. It keeps life interesting. On the other hand, for most individuals it is stressful.
They believe that once they get that one big project underway, it will be smooth sailing at work. Or once they reach their goal weight, they will settle into maintenance mode. They make their plans around what they expect will happen. Wham, wham, those things are taken care of and they can sit back, relax and enjoy smooth sailing. But, like the moles in the arcade game, as soon as they think they got them all more and more pop up. This leads to harsh and frustrating disappointments.
The game “Whack-a-mole” became popular and so many people related it to their lifestyles that the term now appears in dictionaries. It denotes a repetitious and futile task: each time a task is finished, or a problem is dealt with, another task/problem appears elsewhere. Sick kids, surprise guests or goodies, Illness and financial difficulties are just a few of the issues that can pop up just as you thought you had everything figured out.
New issues will continually pop up but there are things you can do to lessen their impact on your life. Below are some tangible tips to make the most out of your day, keep your mind in a good place and feel like you have some control over your circumstances!
1. Expect the unexpected.
2. Under promise and over deliver for yourself.
3. Always have backup plans.
Next Week is the first Monday in September and will be the ninth week-long, accountability group this year. They have been a huge success and have led me to the idea to develop a monthly membership. I want a community home for all of us where we can start the month with a week of group accountability to prioritize goals that will help build momentum for a healthy month! I want more time with everyone that is pertinent to what you need!! I will hold a weekly question and answer session over Zoom where we can be face-to-face getting your questions answered or frustrations vented out! You will have access to courses that will help propel you forward in your health journey and constant accountability from your own private membership group! Will you help me come up with a name?? Direction Not Perfection has always been my belief and therefore a perfect name for my brand. The new membership group needs a name that is purposeful and embraces the feeling of a place you are comfortable to enter, believing you will find the help you are looking for. I would really LOVE your ideas!!
There has been a core group of followers who have joined many or all of the groups. As I prepare for a January 1 launch of the new membership site, I will look to the members in the remaining monthly groups, for ideas, suggestions and opinions to make sure that I am offering what you need and want. Those of you who transition to the new membership with me or start out at the beginning will be considered founding members and will receive special offers! So, reach out now to join the group starting September 7 and
