On August 25th, Formula One history was made at Spa-Francorchamps. Ayrton Senna may have taken victory for McLaren, but it was Michael Schumacher’s dazzling debut for Jordan that stole the headlines — a single race weekend that launched a dynasty.

In this episode of Chequered Past, we revisit the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, a race that proved the winner isn’t always the biggest story. We also pause to remember Ken Tyrrell, the straight-talking team boss whose cars carried Jackie Stewart to three world titles and whose legacy still echoes in today’s Mercedes team. And we return to Zandvoort in 1985, where Niki Lauda claimed the 25th and final win of his career in a tense duel with teammate Alain Prost.

From Schumacher’s first steps to Lauda’s last triumph, August 25th is a day of debuts, farewells, and racing legends.
