Day 39 ~ another stunning, cold winter day.
Her story matters.
She arrived as a stud mare who was unsound due to an old injury, with an owner unsure what to do. Unfortunately, she wasn't a viable breeding prospect either.
I decided to take her on as my own, to see if I could rehabilitate her.
Fast forward to last week, she’s sound, ready for shoes, about to start ridden work.
Then, the owner calls out of the blue. She’s just lost her other horse and asks if this mare could come home as a companion.
And here’s the truth:
Yes, I’d put in months of time, care, and effort.
But it was clear, the right thing was to send her back.
This work isn’t about possession.
It’s about doing right by the horses, even when no one’s watching.
