Description

Katie Meyer is a current member of the Stanford University Women's Soccer Team and was the starting goalkeeper for the 2019 National Championship team.  Katie talks about growing up in Newbury Park, California, how she became interested in soccer, and how she became the goalkeeper.  She details her time at Newbury Park High School, being a kicker on the football team, and her soccer career there.  She then explains why she chose to switch to the online school Century Academy due to the amount of travel she was doing for club soccer.  Katie talks about playing for the United States National Team and how she used being cut from the U17 team as motivation.  She discusses the recruiting process, why she chose Stanford, and how tough the Pac-12 is in soccer.  Katie describes having to redshirt her freshman season, splitting time at goalie for much of the 2019 season before taking over as the full time starter, and making the Final Four.  She explains the semi-final win over UCLA, the trash talk that happened, the National Championship win over North Carolina that went into penalty kicks, her celebrations that went viral, and her excitement for the next 3 years at Stanford.
