Description

Mike Rotolo was a Sophomore football player at Columbine High School in 1999 when the shooting that killed 12 students, 1 teacher, and injured many others happened.  The following fall, the Columbine Football Team won the State Championship and dedicated the season to teammate Matthew Kechter who was killed in the shooting.  Mike talks about growing up in Littleton, Colorado, how he got into football, and almost deciding not to play his Freshman year.  He then details the tragic day on April 20th, 1999, where he was in the school, and how the Columbine community supported each other during and after that time.  He then talks about returning to school and "taking it back", the high expectations the football team had in 1999,  bringing some joy and normalcy to the community through the great season, and winning the State Championship and giving the trophy to the Kechter family.  The Columbine Football team went 13-1 that year, each win dedicated to a person that lost their life.  Mike then talks about his Senior year in 2000 where Columbine repeated as State Champions, attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, his career working in sports media and radio as an audio technician, and gives some details of the documentary in the making for the 1999 season.
