When their numbers reach a magical, critical mass state, Firefly starts to synchronize their flashes. So that each one individual matches with their firefly neighbor and so on. It's part altruism and survival which, to human scientists, seems an odd combination. Not so - we just need to evolve to their place of be-ing Light.
