The Bible gives us significant counsel about how to treat sin and sinners -- especially sin by brethren or former brethren.
Unfortunately, it is rarely heeded, and this leads to a slew of unintended consequences. Let's see what the Bible tells us in regard to this phrase.
Proverbs 17:9 KJV
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
1 Peter 4:7-8 KJV
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
James 5:19-20 KJV
Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
