Joanne G. Hagemeyer says, "This week we anticipate cooking delicious meals and gathering around tables together, reflecting on all we're thankful for. As we do, we are in a sense participating in an ancient harvest festival the Lord invited God's people to attend every year, one of joyful feasting and great thanksgiving:
With the money secure in hand, go to the place that the Lord your God will choose; spend the money for whatever you wish: oxen, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever you desire. And you shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your household rejoicing together' (Deuteronomy 14:25-26)
That passage got me to thinking.
God participates with us in the whole of our lives, enjoying together with us all that brings gladness, and walking with us through all those things that bring suffering and sorrow. God is with us, and every year desires that we would feast together with the Lord at God's table, talking about it all-- the happy and the sad. And God has words for you and me too."
