Description

Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "Outcast" as we continue on in our Mission's Month at Chisholm Assembly of God. Statistics say that only 17% of people 'enjoy hanging out with people not like them.' That's a sad statistic when we think about how Jesus taught us to treat people that are not like us. By looking at Mark 2:13-17 we can pull out 3 different perspectives on how to interact with people who are not like us. The first perspective being that of the Pharisees (religious leaders of that day). The second perspective being what we learn from Jesus's response to the Pharisees.

3 ways that the perspectives of the Pharisees and Jesus differ when it comes to people:

  1. Avoid Sinners vs Recline with Sinners
    • Pharisees said "Other people will bring you down." Jesus said "Accept outcasts and sinners."
  2. The Kingdom is Exclusive vs The Kingdom is Inclusive
    • Pharisees said "Only the best and rule followers get into God's kingdom." Jesus said that "No one is exempt from the love and grace of God."
  3. Sinners make you unclean vs Jesus makes sinners clean
    • Pharisees said "Watch out they will contaminate you." Jesus said "I will shower them with love and grace."

Bottom Line: Jesus came to Earth for people who were nothing like Him.
