Jacob was a liar. He was a con man. Everything that he gained was accomplished by deceit. Perhaps Jacob had it all together on the outside, but if people only knew the kind of man he was they would think differently. Perhaps you have felt that way, "If people only knew who I really am...nobody would ever love me." It wasn't until Jacob had an encounter with God that he was able to be honest with who he was. Through that same encounter God, knowing full well all of Jacobs admitted short comings, still showed grace and mercy to Jacob, and it was at that point Jacob realized that all of deceitful, dirty things he was responsible for no longer defined who he was. He was now free to move on to the destiny to which God was graciously calling him.
