First up, a New Orleans’ Casino Construction Accidents Kills Two
A casino construction site in New Orleans turned deadly on Saturday, Oct. 12. A large portion of the Hard Rock Hotel suddenly collapsed and killed two people while injuring at least 20. At the time of the report on numerous news sources, there was still one person missing in the wreckage. The property borders the historic French Quarter and there is widespread speculation that further damage is possible. Mayor LaToya Cantrell confirmed that 112 people were at the construction site when the collapse occurred.
Rescue efforts continued into Saturday night for the missing worker. The city also deployed a crane to help keep the structure stable. New Orleans’ Fire Chief Timothy McConnell told reporters at a local press conference that the top six to eight floors experienced a “major collapse.” EMS crews on the scene transported 18 of the injured parties to a local hospital.
There were no reports of any bystanders on the ground injured as result of the collapse. Both fatalities and the remaining injured were all construction workers. At the time of the accident, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards added that “we’re praying for the individuals who remain unaccounted for.”
In the next story, The Resorts World Las Vegas On Schedule for Late 2020 Debut
It has been nearly 10 years since a new casino resort opened on the famed Las Vegas Strip. That should all change this time next year with the opening of Resorts World Las Vegas. This project has been seven years in the making. Company officials are looking forward to this arduous journey nearing completion towards the end of 2020.
Malaysian conglomerate Genting Berhad is the principal owner. The company acquired the 87 acres of land in 2013 as a cost of $350 million. Soon after, plans were underway to build an Asian-themed megaresort. After enduring countless delays due to a variety of issues, Genting remains confident it will meet its current timeline. The topping off of the towering 59-story structure was completed this August as a sign of real progress.
The resort will consist of three hotels with more than 3,400 rooms. The casino floor will cover more than 100,000 square feet of space. Plans call for 3,500 slot machines and other games of chance. It will also house a wide variety of table games. Resort World Las Vegas will offer convention space as well of dozens of dining options. The Cosmopolitan was the last casino resort to open on the Strip back in 2010.
