There are two specific challenges when coaching for most leaders and managers. First, a leader needs to know what to do. Second, they need to know what to say. Why are these two things so important? The key to coaching is to help people build self-awareness and this requires fluent application of questioning skills and knowledge. Next, a person being coached needs to take action on their own self-awareness and most people do not have the wherewithal to do this on their own; therefore, this is why coaching is such a valuable tool.
