This week in the #wednesdaywellbeing show I'll be chatting with internationally certified Personal Trainer Sam Blakey. Sam is the owner of Oobermama.
She built up a successful boutique fitness company, Ooberfit, shortly after qualifying as a PT in 2012, whilst living with her family in Singapore,.
Prior to returning to the UK, she had built up a reputation as the foremost pre and post natal coach there and her company was voted Best Fitness Provider in Singapore two years in succession, by a national magazine.
On returning to the UK in 2017, she settled in Harrogate and spotting a gap in the market, decided to focus on her pre and post natal
specialisms.
As well as a woman’s health coach, she is a Certified Pilates Instructor and one of only nine senior trainers with UKHypopressives.
Hypopressives is a unique core-restoring, low pressure breathing technique that helps clients safely reconnect the all important core muscles.
With five children of her own, Sam fully understands the toll giving birth has on mums and credits working alongside women’s health physios in Singapore as invaluable in ensuring she could give these mums the most appropriate pre and post-natal workouts.
Sam also works with women with more severe rehab issues, such as abdominal separation, prolapse, bladder incontinence and poor posture, using Hypopressives to great effect.
“When I moved back to the UK, I decided to primarily focus on training women and particularly pre and post-natal fitness, drawing on the experience I had gained working alongside women’s health physios and from leading Mums & Tums, Pilates, HIIT and Boxing FIT classes over the past six years. I love helping to give women a leg-up on their journey to fitness through carefully designed fitness programmes, videos and - as a former journalist - informative blogs.”
This week I'll also be talking with Laura Hellfeld, a nurse consultant, sleep practitioner, children's yoga teacher and the founder of koko pie families.
Her organisation supports the mental wellbeing of parents and caregivers.
She specifically specialises in working with neuro divergent children and children who have experienced trauma.
Her work reaches a multitude of families and children who are looking for new ways to better connect and communicate within the family.
She teachers strategies that encourage and lift up children. We will be chatting about how you can better communicate with your children to support them through challenging times and we will be talking about the training she provides not just for parents but for care givers and therapists so they can create successful and inclusive practices.
